About Bögöz

Mugeni or Bögöz (Romanian: Mugeni; Hungarian: Bögöz) is a commune in Harghita County, Romania comprising 9 villages:

  • Aluniş/Székelymagyaros
  • Beta/Béta
  • Dejuţiu/Décsfalva
  • Dobeni/Székelydobó
  • Lutiţa/Agyagfalva
  • Mătişeni/Mátisfalva
  • Mugeni/Bögöz
  • Tăietura/Vágás
  • Betfalva

Mugeni is one of the most beautiful villages founded in the Middle Ages. It lies at 11 km from Odorheiu Secuiesc, in the valley of the Târnava Mare river, the Mugeni Valley at 450-475 m above sea level.

The commune has an absolute Székely (Hungarian) majority. According to the 2002 census it has a population of 5,869 of which 98.82% or 5,800 are Hungarian.

The nice landscape is formed by the little settlements from the neighborhood, the broad-leaved forests, green pastures, and the rich flora and fauna. The big games represent the special interest of the zone. The beautiful environs, the opportunity of hunting, fishing, excursions attract many tourists.
